In the paintings “The Baroque Couple”, the busts of a beautiful woman and princely man are rendered, each character facing the other in an elegant pose. Here we see the profiled image of the man, with his prominent nose and garlandlike headdress not unlike the attributes of an ancient Roman emperor's portrait. We sense a regal spirit emanating from this image, the baroque man clearly in possession of himself and the world around him.
