One is instantly mesmerized by this figure’s bulbous orange-brown form with its characteristic patina markings. The detailed human face on the mouth of the vessel and applied styalised human arms and legs emerge from the bulbous portion of jug. Ears, nose, hands and feet protrude from the body of the piece.

The depiction is of an ancestral patriarch. The serene dignity and the power and strength of the piece itself attest to this fact. The bulbous form and the appearance of the character’s collarbones tell the story of the survivor of a natural disaster that leads to famine and starvation. However the serene dignity and grace depicted in the face of our character speaks of his worthiness for survival and immortality as recognised by the artist who created this piece.
