The mysterious forests of Transylvania are captured most imaginatively in the painting “Sorceress 1”. Here, surrealistic images reminiscent of craggy old trees frame the figure of an old woman, her bent body echoing the crooked -tree-like images that surround her. Filtered forest light hauntingly illuminates her aged face and bony hands, as our attention is drawn toward a finger that points toward the woman's canine friend. However, this is no ordinary dog, for as his cagey eyes stare at us we notice the animal's strange protruding nose, grimacing smile and claw-like feet. It appears then, that for a fleeting moment we have become privy to the mysteries of the forest, as we experience an old sorceress and her mysterious animal cohort, as they magically interact within this primeval landscape.
