This genuine Ancient Roman silver coin has been set in a modern 18 karat gold pendant.
The founder of one of Rome’s greatest imperial dynasties, Septimius Severus was born in 146 in Lepcis Magna in North Africa. A soldier of outstanding ability, he held a series of important political posts in various parts of the empire. In 173, on the advice of a fortuneteller, he married Julia Domna, who became the mother of the future emperors Caracalla and Geta. In the turmoil following the death of Commodus, Severus emerged victorious as the new ruler of Rome. His intelligence and strength of character are abundantly evident even in this small coin portrait. To wear it in its golden setting is to evoke the glory of the classical world at its height.
