Aphrodite, the goddess of love, represents emotional and sensual rejoicing, erotic attraction and sexual sensibility. These physical aspects of Aphrodite are part of our nature and the natural world that surrounds us. In the painting “Aphrodite” we see the goddess in the natural environment from which she w as born. According to legend, Aphrodite emerged from the sea, the source of all life. Here we see her rising from her aquatic environment with undulating waves moving above her head. Lush vegetation forms the balance of the painting, its pure and unpolluted essence giving rise to sensual, romantic sensations, not unlike those evoked by Aphrodite herself.
