Apparently repaired in antiquity, this charming jar retains traces of its original red and green coloring. The vestigial handles are pierced so that the vessel may be suspended from a cord, though it can also sit upright on its circular foot. Its original function is uncertain, though it may have held cosmetics or balm. We are left with the impression of an object that was important to its ancient owner, touched often and cherished. In its presence we are linked to an unknown life, otherwise long forgotten, but undeniably real.
