In ancient Mexico the ballgame was a sport with cosmic consequences, an elaborate ritual with life or death stakes. This powerful little figure--wearing a uniform of weights and harnesses--seems aware that he is playing something more than a game. He stands alert and ready as if on a battlefield, waiting for the action to come to him. Suddenly we hear the shouts of the crowd, we smell the dust and we are taken back to a moment of long-forgotten excitement.
