In the span of history it has not been long since humans and animals were used as sacrifices to the gods. This extraordinary altar may have been used for just such a purpose. The three remarkable figures holding up the top are shamans wearing parrot masks. Each figure has three bracelets on their wrists. They are naked with their penises protruding which suggests a possible sexual or procreative significance. Around the table edge are faces or "trophy" heads representing enemies captured in battle. There is a sense of rhythm and movement in this object, as if the figures are still in motion or in a trance, circling round and round in communication with forces beyond our world.
