This urn is quite poignant in its pure simplicity. It is heavy and fairly thick, designed to hold ashes light as air-- a contrast equated with spirit and flesh. On the front is an inscription in Latin and underneath there is a thickly foliaged wreath. At the upper right and left corners are ram's heads. On the lower corners is the head of a man. Without any attempt at artifice, the sculptor has created a work of tenderness and charm. The urn's white marble seems to defy its weight, light as a cloud, yet as substantial as the race of people who once flourished in ancient Italy.
