The rider sits on his horse, with back erect holding onto the tall horn of the saddle, while looking upwards. He is naked and wears a quiver strung over his right shoulder. The horse has rather long legs indented to show the knees, which gives the impression of the animal shifting its weight while standing. Equestrian accouterments are clearly delineated in the fine saddle and under strap, bridle and thick eck strap; all of which were derived from European examples. Owning a horse was the prerogative of high ranking warriors and chiefs, who were the very ones who could afford to have luxury items, such as this handsome sculpture, made for them. This fact accounts for the proud and noble bearing of the rider.
