This particular wooden mask wonderfully shows us the bold features that are so characteristic of the Gere tribe's art. The mask's circular, protruding eyes are sculpted with sheet metal over wood, and the large open mouth reveals two fang-like teeth coming up from the bottom of the mouth. Its chin is covered with burlap-like cloth and it wears elaborately incised headdress. Also enhanced with scarification, the mask's expressive face grabs hold of our attention instantly. The rituals, in which this mask dances, must have been magical and wonderful and we can envision such fascinating scene of the ancient world as we look into this mask.
