This figure has a polished yellow slip, which is decorated with geometric tattoos, lined in brown paint. The large amount of tattoos suggests that this person would have been regarded highly in the community. The added luster adds presence to this important character. A sense of dignity and sculptural monumentality is apparent in the kneeling pose, which may have also been a ceremonial posture. His hands are placed on either thigh giving the vessel stability and strength. He looks straight ahead in a pensive gaze with his mouth slightly ajar as if to try and speak. On his back, he has a very large yet simple tattoo and hair has been added to make him appear more finished and well produced. Only the part of the head however, functions as a place to contain a liquid or a food, rather than the whole body. The rest, though hollow, has been sealed at the neck. Though his function may have been simple, the craftsmanship and design is not so simple, and lets us appreciate the skills of a bygone era.
