A beautiful celadon-green jade carved Indian dagger hilt whose grip is shaped into a horse. The hair is finely incised as chevrons on the back with two small ears on the top of the head. The body of the horse has small protuberances to enhance ease of grip.
Daggers of this type were initially reserved for the Mughal court and were used as exclusive gift objects, a custom that still exists in the Indian state Rajasthan. The became enormously popular in the Qing Court in China, where they were imported from India as exquisite luxury items.
