JB.1182. Mortar and pestle, cast bronze with engraved and with appliqué decoration. The cylindrical body has a flat base and a slanting lower rim and similar slanting top. On one side a lion’s head is fixed into which a freely-moving ring is attached. The lower rim has an epigraphic band, written in Kufic style; the upper rim is decorated with several short cartouches showing meandering scrolls while the central part of the body is decorated with large roundels, each displaying a six-pointed star. Iran or Central Asia, 12th – 13th century.
