Used to contain liquids, this vase is a T’ang archetype that is characterized by its high sloping shoulder and long rounded belly that tapers at the foot. A shiny, dark brown glaze has been applied to the surface with occasional pitting and mottled amber streaks more concentrated in the neck area. Though the glaze continues on the inner side of the neck, the beveled lip is left unglazed, displaying an appealing coarse texture illustrative of the transitional T’ang-Song Dynasty taste for unadorned, natural beauty.
