Mounted in a 18 Karat Gold Rin
The beauty of this intaglio is so delicate it seems to be the very essence of youthfulness, joy and carefree abandon. The figure floats upon the lovely pale violet of the amethyst, gliding over its smooth surface as if transported, casually looking behind with a relaxed ease and elegant dignity. In ancient times the amethyst was believed to possess supernatural powers; bringing luck, ensuring constancy and protecting against homesickness. The name derives from the Greek "not drunken", as amethysts were carried to prevent drunkenness. It is perhaps not coincidental that the figure is holding what appears to be a bunch of grapes, perhaps as a follower of the wine god Bacchus. Whether male or female, this deity is truly a magical being, strolling through a fabled land of myth, without a cafe in the world and with the spirit of eternity.
