These antique gold earrings have been adorned with Ottoman period gold coins and two modern cabochon rubies.
The teardrop-shaped body of the earrings is comprised of two sections, the upper having multiple "panels" each with spirals in ascending order. Around the base are larger spirals from which the coins are hooked by means of double interlaced rings. The gold coins themselves are Turkish and covered in beautiful sinuous script. Crowning the top of each earring is a cabochon ruby, meaning they are cut convex, polished but not faceted. A wonderful contrast is created by the smooth surface of the rubies with the delicate lattice effect of the gold, proclaiming the perfection of nature as a perfect match with the skills of a superb goldsmith.
