There is a definite question with an ambiguous answer to this decorative pedestal. What was it used for? We can assume that it was a ritual piece, but what was placed on top of it? The answer remains for our imagination to decide. The eyes on the mysterious face below the circular rim gaze straight forward at us. The expression appears rather stern and authoritative due to its rigid cheek and chin formations. The earspools may lead us to believe that it is representing a noble person. The geometric designs incised on the base and cut out triangles and "crosses" may represent complex cosmologies and beliefs which have forever been forgotten. Although the precise purpose and meaning remains unknown, the inherent energy of this artistic pedestal penetrates deeper into our psyches and creates a new awareness of our own relationship with the ancient past.
