The full body paint on this handsome figure resembles the colorful sculptures of the Guabal Polychrome style; while the rich red slip and bold black lines resemble Mora Polychrome. Certainly, artists carried on traditions and borrowed ideas to blend with their own creativity. The seated posture of the figure with hands firmly placed on the hips is characteristic of such sculptures, as is the flattened face and widened head. This shape of the head may mimic intentional cranial alteration for religious purposes, or as a sign of beauty. The face painting is quite unusual, particularly the short lines of black around the lips suggesting face hair. Also noteworthy are the squares of red and black around the eyes, and the half-circle over the abdomen. The short black lines at different angles covering much of the body produces an effect of great energy which is 'controlled' by the plain areas of red. Perhaps it is the figure's own intense concentration which holds our attention riveted, as it exerts a presence that seems otherworldly.
