With her arms akimbo and hands planted firmly on wide hips, (the usual pose for females); this woman stands very erect on strong, thick legs. Her small black eyes stare from under thick black eyebrows, her mouth is open revealing a row of teeth. In the style of Galo Polychrome her body is nearly covered in designs of red and black slip. The symmetrical patterns are best observed on the legs and arms, the torso having as a focal point a large red triangle at the middle of the chest. The arms are disproportionately small in relation to the legs, which serves to extenuate the fact she is pregnant. Such figures as this one may have been part of cult practices, or simply depictions of every day life; though reserved for the elite who could afford them. Whether as a symbol of fertility or purely as an aesthetic object, this sculpture signifies a very high level of achievement in the ceramic arts.
