In a patriarchal society, the male figure was very important and due to this an abundance of male sculptures were produced. This sculpture is one such piece, standing erect, in a position of power, overseeing both the family and the community. No sculptural decoration is found, but the beautiful painted decoration and etched design, shows the wonderful craftsmanship of the artist. To support this erect nude figure, the feet were made larger by the artist to support the weight. The hands on the hips and the slightly large thighs add to the dominating presence of this work. When looking at the face, we see great expressionism with the mouth open to bear the finely carved teeth, and the piercing eyes. As a whole, the piece succeeds in creating the memory and ideology of an important person, who was revered and respected, a tribute to both the person and art.
