This ancient vessel offers us a marvelous opportunity to admire the ability and skill of the native people of Costa Rica. They enjoyed a magnificent environment that provided great richness in forests and vegetation with an enormous variety of flora and fauna. This circumstance allowed them to indulge in distinctive and creative artistic efforts. We are witnessing before us a beautiful example of this exceptional art. With wide-open mouth, flaring nostrils and bean-shaped eyes, this figure demands our attention immediately. Proudly standing with her hands at her waist, her legs and arms are covered with beautifully sculpted designs. A very important and prominent pendant hangs from her neck. Her swelling tummy may symbolize an early stage of pregnancy and a special ceremonial hat adorns her head. Extremely artistic and powerful, this figure leaves an indelible mark on our minds.
