This fine example of the period sits poised, evoking a sense of determination and elegance. It is a proud piece exposing the essence of womanhood. Delicately engraved, the artist has concentrated on the designs about the face and limbs, which are etched through a black glaze and then enhanced with a white pigment. This particular method of ornamentation is typical of Heurta ware. The markings are geometric, exercised with an intricate precision while the encircled breasts and smooth stomach reflect a budding maturity. The intense, fixed expression of the face is crowned by a wonderful headpiece, indented at the top and flanked by birds on each side, which bend to fuse with the ears. This haunting work of art still breaths with energy of times long gone by, yet still pervades the world in which we live today.
