The remarkably beautiful designs of Cocle ceramics are based upon an esoteric system of opposing forces. The patterns on this lovely bowl sweep in one direction, where broad purple lines shoot horizontally, then suddenly twist around and outwards with a dynamic force that is exhilarating. To follow the body of this fascinating creature is a never-ending journey, starting with the large eyes that look from beyond, the path is intricate and maze-like in flowing forms of extraordinary elegance. At times the way seems blocked by sharp needles like spines of a sea creature. But the flow is never fully interrupted, the journey never ends, as with the forces of the universe which ancient shamans claimed to utilize for the benefit of man. Within the gently sloping sides of the bowl is contained a force of constant motion, always moving like a self-generating dynamo. It is a testimony to both the power of art and the inspiration behind it, that the image on this bowl is as vibrant today as when it was first brought to life by a gifted artist.
