With a large, spoon-billed mask projecting from his mouth, this aged priest presents a dramatic sculpted clay image. Dressed in ceremonial attire that includes a sashed loincloth, large necklace, wristlets and earpools, we are at once captivated by his dynamic presence. At the same time, his energetically extended arms witnessing this priest in the middle of an age-old Mayan spiritual dance. His wizened face with its shrunken cheeks, furrowed brow and sage-like expression gives witness to his many years and his mystical knowledge, encouraging us to feel his deep, primal rhythms. Moreover, if we turn his spirited body around, we discover that this ancient shaman figure is also a whistle, and the mystical sounds that he brings forth are most certainly in tune with the timeless cosmic order, whose march is orchestrated by the gods that this priest knows so well.
