Bronze, was frequently used in the manufacture of objects of daily life in the Islamic world, such as this mortar of waisted cylindrical form and its pestle Though this was a common possibly household object, it has been intricately and beautifully decorated. The simplicity of the pestle is made up for by the extravagant decoration of the mortar, which consist of an elegant combination of fine engraving around rised oval and quadrilateral bosses. The protruding rim and splayed foot have also been decorated by geometric designs.
