This magnificent Roman period oil lamp stands on three circular feet. The pear-shaped body has a raised filling hole with a short neck. Attached to this is a wide leaf-shaped adornment, which is also supported by a thin handle. The shape of the nozzle echoes that of the attachment, and of the main body of the vessel. This wonderfully conceived object would have been an expensive luxury in the ancient world and continues to impress us with its simplicity of form.
