It has been suggested that the cheerful, carefree expression on the face of this figure is brought on by ritual intoxication, a drunkenness induced for the worship of the Gods. His delightful grin seems to put the whole universe in perspective; there is nothing known to man that can not be transcended by a smile. For whatever reason this charming fellow sees the world so happily, in his presence we cannot help but smile ourselves.
