One of the most striking, as well as curious works of art found in the ancient world, is the stone head. Used to promote victory in battle, it was a sign of power as well as a sign of dominance and fearlessness. However, though it gives off an unapproachable air with its hollow eyes, there is something mysterious and alive about such a piece which raises our curiosity to look beyond the stone, and penetrate the psyche of its creator as well as the culture which looked upon this as a type of mascot. Though our reaction may be different to what it may have once evoked, we should still see ourselves as a crucial part of its history, as proof that the work still invokes curiosity and perhaps a little apprehension, so many years later.
