A very sharp chin, like the blade of an axe, elongates the face and serves as a dramatic contrast to the oval shape of the upper head and the flat cap. The eyes are done in the standard coffee-bean style, the nose is nicely formed, the thin slit of a mouth is quite long to accommodate the widening of the cheeks. Curly-cue ears contain small 'pellets' indicating earspools or the ear passage, which combine to create a fine geometric effect in juxtaposition to the more linear quality of the facial features and head. As symbols of military triumph the trophy head served as proof of a warrior's prowess; and was an important item to be interred for the journey into the after-life.
