By elongating the head the sculptor established a structural format for other distinctive elements to be added--such as the long, thick nose, 'fleshy' slim ears, in a curly-cue fashion with the lobs reaching to the lower portion of the cheek, and the marvellous circular eyes resembling screws. A small tight fitting cap decorated in an elaborate pattern adds a textural quality, which compliments the more severe geometry of the face and the rough surface of the stone. The result is an essentially abstract work that is very expressive of human emotion, beautifully capturing a multitude of feelings.
