A gilded and enamelled "Persian Style" two-handled glass flask, signed Paris Brocard et fils. Philippe-Joseph Brocard was born in Liege in 1831 and died in Meudon, near Paris, in 1896. He started his career as a restaurer of art objects and of antiquities. Quite early in his life he became very interested in glass artefacts to the point of being the first to rediscover and to re-apply the ancient and rather complex technique used by the Syrian glass manufacturers of the 13th and 14th century, which implied the use of multicoloured enamels and gilding.
