This striking head immediately engages us in his stare. The vessel is so designed that the head is modeled at such an angle that it appears to be looking up. The purpose of a vessel is very much secondary to the sculpture itself. The large head rests on a practically invisible foot rim, and the mouth of the vessel terminates in such a way that it serves as a hat. Below the high arched brows, which join the bridge of the nose, are deep-set almond eyes with penetrating incised pupils. The ears are appliquéd and the mouth has full slightly parted lips. On the face are incised designs, notably an interlocking design on the cheeks that represent tattoos. This beautiful head is finished with burnished black slip, and could be either a portrait or trophy head.
