This attractive female figure actually represents a deceased twin in much the same manner as Yoruba Ibeji dolls. They were often dressed and played with, and treated as live children would be. This is an unusually fine example, with well-rendered facial features, ornate hair, neck-rings and a nice, glossy patina indicative of long use. This is an attractive piece of Ewe art.
