Compared to the wooden Lobi sculpture, this bronze amulet is very elaborate. The body is constructed of a thick, double band with a central portion and an extension, which is actually two joined triangles. The middle section is dominated by a heavy ring wrapped with tight bands like woven fibers, and a hanging element in the form of an abstract fish head. A series of five beads or small spheres serves to separate the fish from the main section, which can be seen either as a geometric construction or the body of a snake. The two snake heads are joined by a ribbed band and given lively expression by the clever eyes like screws with a similar design for the nose. Snakes were seen as creatures of potent strength and power both in the physical world and supernatural realm. They are also symbols of fertility and sexual prowess. This amulet was probably worn as a charm to aid a man's virility. It's formidable shape is not only a snake's body, but also a streak of lightening suspended in space-- robust, intense and very masculine.
