A wide-open mouth with thick lips characterizes this bust. Thick circular bands making them stand out more vividly surround the appliquéd eyes. A slim nose and narrow chin are in keeping with the rather elongated head. Decoration is restricted to an incised band on the top of the head in a distinctive design and the necklace forming a V-shape at the throat. The sculptures of Komaland are still a mystery to researchers, presenting a distinctive style of art unique in Africa. The local people refer to these objects as "Kronkronbali", meaning "olden days children." Though the ancient people of Komaland may forever remain an enigma, their art will continue to attract the art lover and scholar by their inimitable appeal.
