This splendid wheeled vehicle represents a chariot with a cover of woven palm branches. In such a wagon during ancient festivals, the image of the local god or goddess might have been drawn through the streets in triumph. This terracotta model was offered as a votive gift to please the gods, perhaps by a celebrant at one of their rites. What did that long-vanished person wish for in making such an offering? Perhaps for health, wealth and happiness, things not so very different from what we might want today.
