Jasper is a massive, fine-grained, opaque variety of chalcedony, believed to protect against sight defects and drought. In fact, many Native Americans tribes used jasper as a central focus of their rain dances. Jasper occurs in shades of brown, grayish blue, red, yellow, and green and mixtures of these colors. Known as the " supreme nurturer" and the “mother of all stones,” jasper is thought to protect against negativity, inspire courage, and balance the forces within to the stabilizing energy of the Earth. Ancients believed that it could detoxify organs of the blood cleansing system like the liver. Shamans used jasper to provide protection on their journey to the spirit worlds. Red jasper may be worn for protection. Clear the mind with yellow jasper. Brown jasper is an aid to concentration and may be worn for centering and grounding. Not only does this stone have the power to restore our inner energy and balance our life forces, but it also makes for lovely adornment, as this beaded necklace so elegantly demonstrates.
