A rare example of carved rock crystal libation cup. The cup is decorated with incised waves motifs and a chilong dragon carved in high relief on one side of the cup. The motif of the chilong, a mystical animal symbolising auspiciousness, has appeared on Chinese jade-wares from as early as the Han Dynasty (206 BCE–220 CE). The representation of the dragon is detailed and harmonious. The bottom of the cup resembles the shape of a dragon’s tail, and it gives a combination of mystic and naturalistic aura to the piece.
