A Hispano Moresque Style Spanish Porcelain Plate, featuring intricate floral patterning, eminating from the centre of the plate outwards in a blue and red which is indicative of Hispano Moresque work from this period.
In the centre of this work, we see a motif of arabic text. Works
produced in the South of Spain in this era made great use of
text such as this as decorative features, which were often either
deliberately misspelled or illegible, evidencing work being taken over
by Christian craftsmen. Pieces such as this therefore demonstrate 141 the elements of cohabitation between Islamic and Christian cultures
in Spain during this time.
