This extraordinary figure is a masterpiece of composition graced with the rich quality o preserved polychrome painting. A gentle facial expression, as soft and evocative as a memory of a friend, is brilliantly integrated with a wealth of ethnographic details. Extensive cross-hatching body paint adorns his stylized arms and legs. The artist has paid special attention to reveal the curving shape of the limbs with the cross-hatching polychrome paint. He sits gallantly before use with his coiffure drawn back from hi forehead with ear spools and a tanga (pubic cover). His wide, staring eyes are full of wonder and awareness of the rituals, which took place before him over a thousand years ago. We share wonder and awareness, as well, towards this beautiful work of art, which has graced our modem presence with the ancient artistic achievements of the past.
