The burnish red slip is beautifully carved with tribal incisions filled in with white paint. The etchings are of geometric designs. The sculpture is of a man carrying a basket held onto his back by some kind of rope. The rope goes over his shoulders and his hands grasp the ends. A unique attribute of this vessel is the spine that goes down his back. The bony spine is raised off from the sculpture and may also symbolize that this man is a hunchback. The position he is in captures the moment of rest from his labor. The face is highly realistic and the nose is aquiline and the nostrils are flaring from exhaustion. He is a perfect representation of the men who built and made the great culture of the Costa Ricans.
