This genuine ancient coin has been mounted in a modern 18 karat gold ring.

Larissa, situated in eastern Greece, was the most important town in the region of Thessaly. The rich series of coins of Larissa begins at an earlier date than that of any other Thessalian town and the coins of the best period are of exquisite beauty, as revealed in this stunning silver coin. On one side we see the dynamic image of a galloping horse, his legs creatively positioned in mid-stride. Reins about his neck give suspect to the whereabouts of his rider. Perhaps he has been left in the dust, the horse's spirited energy, like that of Larissa, far too strong to harness. On the reverse side of the coin appears a bull, whose enormous vitality is being controlled, albeit tenuously, by the figure of a man. Both man and beast assert an energy that equates with the power of ancient Larissa. Clearly, this coin is a magnificent artistic expression of the spirited strength of a city, peopled by imaginative artists adept at portraying the intangible in a most captivating fashion.
This coin was found in Asia Minor.
