Twisting and dancing hypnotically, two plumed serpents guard the contents of this vessel. These serpents, feared and revered as gods, appear ready to escape their eternal confinement and leap out into the modern world. The large ovoid jar rests on a pedestal foot that is decorated with a geometric pattern relating to the skin of the serpent. Around the mouth rim of the vessel is a similar border that holds captive these powerful creatures. This vessel of the middle polychrome period, is formed from earthenware and decorated with a cream slip, over that is burnished red, orange and black paint.
