This is a gold sculpture of Avalokitesvara Chaturbhuja. Amongst all iconographic forms of Avalokitesvara, Chaturbhuja, “The All Seeing Lord with Four Hands”, is a popular depiction. Seated in vajra posture, adorned with many attractive silks and jewels, the resplendent and radiant Chaturbhuja expresses a peaceful and soothing smile on his face. He holds a noose (Pasha) in his upper left hand, and a sankha in his upper right. His lower left hand rests upon his lap, while his lower right forms the vitarka mudra. On the crown of the head is the miniature version of the Buddha Amitabha, the master of Avalokitesvara. Since Bali was a Hindu-Buddhist nation, traits of Hindu deities have been incorporated into this sculpture of Avalokitesvara. For example, the noose (Pasha) is usually associated with the elephant-headed god Ganesha. It symbolises the power to bind and remove obstacles. Likewise, the sankha is usually associated with Lord Vishnu, one of the central Hindu deities. It symbolises the divine sound of creation and maintenance. This pure gold sculpture is in extra fine condition and its details are well-preserved
