A stunning Buddha head from Thailand, richly painted in gold. The expression of the Buddha is one of outstanding serenity. His enlightened status is made evident by the large rounded ushnisa, or bump, on which there is a urna (the third eye of the Buddha). His long earlobes are the result of the heavy earrings he used to wear as a royal youth that pulled down on his ears, suggesting the luxurious life he abandoned.
