In the pair of Roman earrings, the god Cupid is depicted with a childlike physique. Cupid (Greek counterpart Eros) is closely associated with Venus (Greek counterpart Aphrodite), the goddess of beauty, love and fertility. The ancient Jewelry adorned women in life but also accompanied them in the Underworld. Sometimes as the creator of life and sometimes as the herald of death, Cupid would have been a sweet companion in her journey to the underworld, while exquisitely decorating the daily life of a woman wearing these earrings.
