This wonderful group shows two seated figures who may be a representation of the king and his wife. He holds a baton or scepter as symbol of rank. She is seated proudly with hands on her knees. They are preceded by five male figures who are greatly diminished in size by comparison. The leading figure on the left carries a shield, while the man next to him holds two staffs. Behind them are three musicians vigorously making music. With remarkable skill the artist has not only depicted different instruments, but the pose and facial expressions of people caught up in the thrill of music.The final figure at the back dutifully holds an umbrella providing shade for the king and queen. It is amazing to consider how an artist managed to capture the intense feeling of an important ceremony, a grand audience of royalty and a festive occasion, all with simplicity and elegance through the medium of brass.
