This remarkable spoon attests to the skill and craftsmanship still abundant in Africa. It is slightly larger than the average utility spoon due to the fact that it is for the measuring of gold. On the top is an image of a man who is holding either a musical instrument of some kind or his own beard. The mouth of the spoon is carefully decorated with various geometric patterns and includes a twisted rope pattern around the edge. The back of the spoon is also decorated and suggests a phallic connection. Today's measuring utensils resemble nothing of what has been created with this spoon. Both time and effort have been taken to create a genuine work of art out of bronze, an old and traditional material which we connect with the past. It is with such a connection that we ourselves, become a part of that past.
